State of Xhelos in July

Well, I had a "work vacation" as I like to say about time overjob, but this months seems like I will have more free time so, its about time to continue the develop of Xhelos.

Actual State

We continue to battle the units effects and also we need to improve the AI, the last changes on the game has made the AI unusable but i will put it back on his track in no time.

I dont really like to redo the AI again but Its a job I gotta do.

In the near Future

After finishing the AI and the Effect System for units, I only need to see how the units are going to move between planets and stars, and also redo the register of new users and add some new content to the game.

This webpage will migrate to drupal78, hell, its a uber necesary change that can be done easily, I expect to dont take to much time in this migration.

I will bring some more news soon!.

State of  Xhelos in June

Continuing with the development, I can say that we are advancing a lot in this year and we want to continue this way.

Where we are?

We are developing Avatars to the colonies in region. We want the primary and secondary colony to had a more protagonic role in battle, for example the capacity of release units inside the colony and a special attack that the colony has to protect herself. To balance this new power, the colonies can be attacked and be plundered, each time a colony is attacked, a certain quantity of resources are stealed for the colony owner. aun se esta calculando este dato. We are still calculating the rate of resources but we will have this.

¿Where are we going?

We are ending the Effect System, especially the battle effects units. After that we are going to improve the movement between regions, planets and stars and improve the AI in regions and planets. Our objetive is made the game fun even is no other player is in the region. When we end this we are going to launch the game to BETA!

About the Effects System

We are working in a very important section of the game. The Effect Module. But, what is an effect in the game?

The Effects are the register of changes mades to a player, unit, terrain, planet that affect one or more of their stats and they can be reverted.

Lets make an example. We build a  biomatery refinery, a construction that improve the rate of biomatery generated per hour in a colony. Whe need a systematic way of controlling that rate when building, upgrading an downgrading  the construction, and more important, the user needs to know what effects are applied to the rate of biomatery production in the colony.

If we only improve the rate of biomatery, the user will only see the final effect but have no explicit way of knowing how. it was generated. So if we have a colony in a region that generates 10 biomatery per hour, and in that colony we have a biomateruy rfienry that add 1 biomatery per hour, the total will be 11 biomatery per hour, but the user will not know how that total was generated.

That's why we need a way to store those changes.  and the effect way really help alot in this sense.

Improved Colony View

We finished the Improved Colony View, with new view gave us more order an strategic possibilities than the old view. We manage to do this restricting the number of buildings an armies that can be builld on the colony, so now we have to choose carefully what kind of buildings we should have. The Old version was awesome because you could build your colonies whenever you want but it didnt have much strategic sense. 

By default, we have the following free spaces to build construcctions in the colony::

  • Primary Colony: 8 free slots
  • Secondary Colony : 4 free slots

Also we have 10 spaces to build the creatures we had design in the Mutation View.

Here is a comparation between the old and the new view.

For now an according with my developer plan, im going to maintain this last update on my dev machine, until I complete all the thigns needed for the Beta Version.

Research View is Ready!

Good news!, I managed to finish the development of the Research View. Now every time you win experience killing units or exploring the world you raise your level and also win Actions Points (AP). Those AP will allow you to research new powers and buildings.

Some research need some previous researchs to appear. The objetive of this is to make the user pick only the investigations that they need. A user will never be able to research all investigation, so they must choose their ways. This will be like a variation of User Class, but instead of one predefined way, you can choose differents paths to power.

Now the next step is the revamp of the Colony View. It will be so different for what i was doing. According to my calculus in two weeks I will end the redevelopment of this view. Now the colony view was done but Im not happy with it, I will try to make it simpler and also at last the creation of New Armies!.

April Xhelos State

I believe that for now,I will dedicate all the time to upload only the final Alpha Version of Xhelos, but to prevent users from checking all the updates and comments, the WebPage will be online. For now, this is the new rute to follow:

  • Creature Design View - 100% and ready for test, :).
  • Research View - 10% , the design is ready for development.
  • Army Creation and Destruction - 0% .
  • Colony View Redesign - 5% In design. Im going to redesign the building stuff on the colony.
  • Movement between regions, stars and planets - 10% , an initial region movement is ready but I need to hav a way to move them between planets and stars.
  • Artificial Intelligence applied to the Planets and Initial playness - 0% And yes, i made up the word playness
  • FIRST BETA - 0% Here is where I will be starting marketing the game

I had a problem where the players of the game, play the region view and tell me, "Yeah I like it, or i have some suggestion, but.. what else?". There was no sense of a complete game, because it wasn't a complete game. So my new objetive will be developing  the game to a basic beta state and then launch it Big Time. However, fell free to check my advances here in the update sections.
