Colonies, Regions and Minimap

As a previous step for resources management, i bring you today the visualization of region colonies. Each region now have a background that identified from who is the colony, as always red is for human enemies, blue is for yourself and purple is for artifical players. Also the colony appears on the minimap too!.

 

As usuall, code refactorization was made to achieve some rendering speed. It's unbelievable what one encounter from a code that hasn't been touch like a year ago. But the effort was worthed, I have polished the teams creation and destruction and resolve some bugs about unit and colony collision. Now units cannot walk on top of the colonies.

All of this effort is being made to achieve our goal of resources management. In a near future, we will be able to build and destroy colonies to farm some resources, as the usual norm on strategic games. I will bring some more good news in the comings week so stay tune for future improvements. See ya latter,

Improved Roadmap Section

The Roadmap section is better than ever. Now I think it is understandable for all other people visiting the section. Just to be a little more obvious. This roadmap sections shows all the existing milestones on the game development. Theyre separates according to modules. Xelos is the main module.

Beginning Module Development Resources

Two weeks ago I had a Sunday off so I gave a quick look to the state of the game. The tutorials section were already done and working for my thesis plan, with the proper documentation required by the University so I could finish my Grad Thesis.

So, now we're talk about the next steps to take on the game. The resource Manager part, that's it.

Xhelos Resources Minitutorial

In Xhelos, we obtain resources in two ways, conquering territories and in the midst of battle. Let me explain both steps:

  • Territory Conquest: Each territory will have a certain production bonuses that will be yours when you conquer the territories.you will get the resources over time.
  • In battles: I have take the idea from some RPG ala DIABLO, or the online game RISK Factions. Every time you knock out an enemy unit, it exploded and left behind a box of resources that you can use immediately.I find the idea interesting and give an extra incentive for "battling".

Well, that will be it for now. And well, we are now in a new game version: 0.5.0.0. In this version im going to focus on resource management. See you soon :)

After a long time of (not) forced vacation, I have put the Xhelos Page Online. All the Data from the game before the temporal shutdown is still functional again. So the next week im going to see the state of the game an create a better schema of work. I think that my main problem with  the game is that I dont really have any idea of the next step of programming. Im gonna do some brainstorming and try to get the overall idea of the game.

Yes, currertly you can fight and win battles in the game, but there's no motivation in doing so, no resource grabbing, no rewards for battling. I Need some ideas to what this strategic games is going to.

Questionnaire and Spelling

Thanks to all the user that answered the AI questionnaire. I still need some more but we are progressing in that aspect.

Some questionnaires have some suggestion and opinions about improving the game. I will put some of these in the forum, and of course i will answer so you can feel heard.

Also, I want to thanks our friend and user KronoX for helping me find some spelling errors (well in the spanish version) and also discover a bug on the battle tutorial.

Please if you find any bug, you can report it in our forum.
